There is an African saying that it takes a village to raise a child. It takes a sisterhood to raise a woman! Without a tribe of women surrounding me, I never would have become a successful coach, opened my practice, welcomed clients and overcome some huge hurdles.
It takes a sisterhood to raise a woman. Not only to raise a woman but simply to support a women to be herself. The trouble is that as soon as a woman starts to rise, there are those who get uncomfortable and start to protest the changes.
Have you ever felt like you were not with the right group of friends?
Here is something that my business mentor shared with me that helped me with this: beware of crab mentality.
Here is the Wikipedia definition:
“Crab mentality…. describes a way of thinking best described by the phrase “if I can’t have it, neither can you.” The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs.
Individually, the crabs could easily escape from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other…which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise.”
I have a woman buddy who I’ve been meeting with by videoconference every week for 2 years now. We discuss our businesses, we process our emotions, we support each other through all the challenges of being entrepreneurs.
We lift each other up rather than pull each other down. What is amazing about this is that we are both relationship coaches and we both have online presence! Instead of competing we make each other better!
I hope to see you there!
And don’t forget – love is your nature,
